Share Jira progress without Jira access

Your team keeps working in Jira. Export a project List or a filtered JQL result as CSV, and the other team gets a clean shared lane with only the work items and fields you choose.

What you export

BULK SCOPEProject List, or a filtered Issue Navigator (JQL) result
FORMATCSV
Jira plan and export limits
  • A whole project can be exported from the List view.
  • Issue Navigator asynchronous CSV supports up to 10,000 work items per export. Split larger sets with non-overlapping JQL batches.
  • This is not a native whole-board JSON export.

Step by step

  1. 1Open the workPROJECT → LIST, OR ISSUE NAVIGATOR WITH JQLFilter to the project, epic or release you want to share.
  2. 2ExportEXPORT → CSVExport all fields. AlignLane ignores what it does not map.
  3. 3UploadALIGNLANE → BOARD → IMPORTChoose the file. Jira CSV is detected automatically.
  4. 4Map and choose shared fieldsMAPPING PREVIEWConfirm the mapping. Estimates and comments stay excluded unless you include them.
  5. 5PublishSHAREReview the import report, then copy the share link.

What crosses into AlignLane

Default mapping for a Jira export. Every field can be excluded before import; unknown or sensitive columns are excluded by default.

What stays internal

  • Original and remaining estimates
  • Comments and worklogs
  • Sprint, story points and epic mechanics
  • Any custom field you do not map

Excluded columns are not stored. Re-imports match rows by Jira ID and update only what changed — see the import docs.

Questions

Does the other team need Jira?
No. Read-only viewers open the AlignLane link. Sign-in is only required for identity or partner actions.
Is this live sync?
No. This is a bulk file import you can re-run. Live source sync is labelled separately when released.
Will re-importing create duplicates?
AlignLane matches source IDs where available and shows an import report. Duplicate-handling behaviour is covered in the import docs.
Why not just invite the client into Jira?
Sometimes that is enough. Jira Standard, Premium and Enterprise include free external guests — up to 5 guests per paid user. Guests are limited to a single Jira space with reduced permissions, but still work inside Jira concepts: issues, workflows and project structure.
